Claim this gymJefferson City Judo Club & Jujitsu organizes its training around a clear progression, starting with fundamentals and moving through intermediate and advanced levels. Classes are structured by both age and experience: beginners ages 5–11 meet early evenings, while teens and adults advance through later sessions. Intermediate and advanced judo students, ages 12 and up, work through increasingly technical material, with a focus on discipline, confidence, and the core techniques of traditional judo. Saturday sessions are set aside for competition-focused training and special topics, giving athletes extra time to sharpen their skills. The club’s instructor team brings decades of experience and a wide range of martial arts backgrounds. Sensei Josh Lehmen, a 4th degree black belt in judo and 3rd degree in jujitsu, leads the instruction and is also certified in kata and as a regional referee. Sensei John McDaniel has been teaching since the 1980s and holds a 3rd degree black belt, with a history of developing students both on and off the mat. The team also includes Sensei Roy Tuua, who has represented the United States at the World Kata Championships, and Sensei Chuck Coffin, whose martial arts journey spans military service and international training. Together, they maintain a focus on practical skill, tradition, and personal growth. Beyond judo, the club offers Shin-Gi-Tai jujitsu classes for students ages 13 and up, blending grappling, self-defense, and kata. The facility itself is one of the largest in Missouri, with over 4,000 square feet of mats and a history dating back to 1965. Open mat sessions, competition classes, and private lessons round out the schedule, supporting everyone from new students to experienced competitors.
