Gracie Barra Jefferson City Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Self Defense runs a structured curriculum rooted in the traditional Gracie Barra system, guiding students from their first class through advanced ranks. Training starts with the GB1 Fundamentals Program, which builds a base in self-defense and core Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques. As students progress, they move into the GB2 Advanced Program, which adds more complex drills, no-gi training, and live sparring, and finally GB3, the expert level reserved for blue belts and above. The academy also features dedicated programs for children (GBK) and women (GBF), each with its own progression and focus on safety, confidence, and technical growth. The school is led by Professor Jonathan Machado, a first-degree black belt and Gracie Barra Certified Instructor, who is known for his quiet focus and love of competition. Supporting him is a team of brown belt instructors—Nathan Miller, Kirsten Allen, and Ritchie Conley—each bringing their own local roots and family connections to the mats. Their collective goal is to share Jiu-Jitsu’s benefits with anyone interested, maintaining the Gracie Barra philosophy of structured, safe, and effective training. Classes run throughout the week with daytime and evening options, and the facility welcomes families, with many instructors’ own children training alongside students. The academy is wheelchair accessible and follows the Gracie Barra approach of building integrity, discipline, and brotherhood through consistent, technical training for all ages.
