J.R.E.A.M. BJJ Academy

J.R.E.A.M. BJJ Academy began as a training space for Jack, Sean, and Frankie to pursue their passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu after relocating to Nevada. The name stands for “Jiu Jitsu Rules Everything Around Me,” reflecting the founders’ belief in chasing personal excellence and supporting others on and off the mats. What started as a small group of dedicated practitioners has grown into a thriving academy with deep local roots in Carson City and a sister location in Elko. The Carson City program is led by Coach Jack Montgomery, a second-degree black belt under Marcos Torregrosa and Lowell Anderson, with a background in wrestling and over 18 years of BJJ experience. He’s joined by Coach Sean LeBard, a black belt who trained under Lowell Anderson and Marcos Torregrosa, and Coach Mike Hurlbert, a brown belt who runs the kids’ program and fundamental classes. The coaching team brings experience from IBJJF, Grapplers Quest, and MMA circuits, and their lineage traces back to Fabio Santos. Their approach emphasizes fundamental principles, progressive learning, individualized attention, and a growth mindset for every student. JREAM Academy offers instruction for both adults and kids, with a focus on building a solid technical foundation and fostering critical thinking on the mats. The kids’ team recently took first place at a United Grappling event in Reno, and the adult team remains active in local competitions. Classes cover fundamentals, advanced techniques, and open mat sessions, with a strong emphasis on safety and personal development. The facility is wheelchair accessible and offers parking, and drop-ins are welcome for those looking to train in Carson City.
