Hybrid Jiujitsu

Hybrid Jiujitsu in Las Vegas is led by black belt world champions Renato and Raquel Canuto, who bring decades of high-level experience to the mats. After running Checkmat Las Vegas together, the Canutos launched Hybrid Jiujitsu in 2021 as a solo venture that blends their competitive backgrounds and teaching philosophies. Renato, a second-generation black belt from São Vicente, Brazil, earned his black belt at age 20 and has won major titles in both gi and no-gi, including a black belt world championship in the gi. Raquel, a three-time black belt no-gi world champion and former college All-American wrestler, heads the fundamentals and fitness programs, drawing on her experience in both MMA and grappling. The academy’s class schedule is designed for flexibility, with early morning, midday, and evening sessions available throughout the week. Adult students can progress through a structured path that includes gi and no-gi fundamentals, all-levels classes, advanced gi and no-gi sessions, and open mats. The Hybrid FIT program offers a conditioning option alongside technical training. Both Renato and Raquel are hands-on with instruction, with Renato focusing on advanced and competition-level details while Raquel leads the fundamentals for all ages. Hybrid Jiujitsu also runs a detailed kids’ program, starting with “Mini Samurai” classes for ages 3–4 and “Little Samurai” for ages 5–7. Kids ages 8 and up are grouped by experience, with separate beginner and advanced gi classes, no-gi options, and a Kids Combat Club for mixed-level training. Drop-ins are welcome for most classes, and the gym emphasizes a family-friendly approach with opportunities for parents and children to train together.
