Claim this gymGrappling Technics opened its doors in Osborne Park in February 2017, established with the goal of providing a cost-effective Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training option for Perth’s northern suburbs. The club is led by Leigh Burger, a 3rd degree IBJJF certified black belt whose lineage traces through Carlos Gracie, Carlos Gracie Jr, Rigan Machado and John Will. Leigh has been immersed in BJJ since 2006, originally training at Submission Factory, and has competed at state, national and international levels. His approach is straightforward: provide cutting-edge instruction in a positive, practical setting where everyone can improve technically, regardless of their starting point. The training schedule at Grappling Technics is built to suit a range of students and lifestyles. Classes run seven days a week, with both morning and evening sessions available. The core of the program is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, offered in both gi and no-gi formats. Beginners are encouraged to start with foundation practices, while more experienced grapplers can join all-levels sessions. The club also runs a dedicated beginners no-gi class, women’s only no-gi sessions, and a wrestling class, reflecting a well-rounded approach to grappling arts. Kids’ gi classes are on offer as well, opening the door for younger students to get started. Classes are structured with a warm-up, technical drilling, and partnered rolling, focusing on steady technical progress. There’s no requirement to purchase a club uniform, and the atmosphere is relaxed—formalities like bowing are left out, but practical hygiene is emphasised. Private lessons are available by appointment. Drop-ins are welcome, making it straightforward for visitors or those looking to try out the club. The emphasis remains on quality jiu-jitsu and consistent development, led by experienced coaching and a genuine commitment to practical learning.
