Gracie Barra Bondi

Gracie Barra Bondi was founded by Professor Pedro Dornelles, a third-degree black belt with over 15 years’ experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Dornelles began training in 1999, drawn by the desire to learn self-defence, and has since dedicated his career to helping others discover the broader benefits of BJJ—resilience, discipline and a sense of belonging. Alongside a team of certified instructors, the academy maintains Gracie Barra’s commitment to a structured, safe and inclusive training environment, with all coaches holding current certifications in first aid, police checks and Working With Children accreditation. The academy’s programs cater to a wide range of students, from children as young as pee wee age through to advanced adults. Kids and teens are introduced to BJJ through age-appropriate fundamentals, drilling and takedown classes, with an emphasis on confidence and discipline. Adults progress through the GB1, GB2 and GB3 programs, moving from fundamentals to advanced and expert levels, with classes covering gi and no-gi techniques, sparring, and competition preparation. There are also dedicated women’s self-defence classes, wrestling fundamentals, and Muay Thai for those looking to broaden their martial arts skills. Classes run throughout the week, with early morning sessions from 6 am and evening classes finishing as late as 9 pm, making it possible for students to fit training around work and family commitments. Open mat sessions and gi competition training provide opportunities for extra practice. The facility itself covers 250 square metres, offering ample room for both structured classes and individual development. Drop-ins are welcome across most classes, reflecting the school’s practical approach to sharing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with the Bondi Junction community.
