Gordo Jiu Jitsu Academy in Weston, Florida is run by Roberto “Gordo” Correa, a Coral Belt and one of the most influential figures in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Gordo is known worldwide as the creator of the modern half guard and has been teaching since the 1990s. Raised in Rio de Janeiro and influenced early by Ralph Gracie, he started training in 1986, earned his black belt in 1993, and went on to win multiple world and Pan American titles. After decades spent building champions and sharing his knowledge across the globe—including coaching the UAE national team—Gordo now leads his namesake academy in Florida, where he was awarded his Coral Belt by Renzo Gracie. The academy offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for both adults and kids, with classes structured to develop self-defense skills, discipline, and athletic ability. The children’s program puts a strong emphasis on confidence and focus, while adult classes welcome students at every stage of their journey, from beginners looking to learn the basics to experienced grapplers.
