Fuerza Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Fuerza Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is led by Mario Gaxiola, a black belt with over 20 years of BJJ experience who began teaching while still a purple belt. Mario’s lineage includes training under Jerry Laurita, Joe Moreira, and Mike Martin, from whom he received his black belt. Starting Fuerza in 2022 out of his home in Glendale, Arizona, Mario brings a background as a law enforcement officer and a family-owned approach to the academy. His long involvement in the Arizona martial arts scene and ongoing competitive experience shape the school’s focus on practical self-defense and sustained skill development. Students at Fuerza train in age-appropriate classes beginning as young as four years old, with programs tailored for kids aged 4-7 and 8-12 to build confidence, discipline, and fitness alongside basic technique. Teens and adults train together in sessions that emphasize physical conditioning, mental toughness, and self-defense skills, welcoming practitioners at all levels. The academy encourages a healthy competitive spirit while maintaining an environment centered on learning and mutual respect. The schedule includes open mat sessions for adults, allowing extra time to drill and roll beyond formal classes. Fuerza also offers month-to-month memberships without long-term contracts, accommodating varying training commitments. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and drop-in students are welcome. Coaches Kristi Gaxiola and Noah Martin complement Mario’s instruction, with Kristi focusing on children’s classes and Noah contributing extensive experience from his youth training and competition background.
