Forward BJJ

Forward BJJ is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym located on Madison’s West Side near the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The academy embraces a philosophy centered on continuous growth and forward momentum, welcoming practitioners from complete beginners to experienced competitors. Forward BJJ structures its instruction to develop both the physical techniques and the mental resilience required by the sport, emphasizing perseverance, respect, and courage as core values. Classes at Forward BJJ cover a broad range of skill levels and age groups. Beginners start with fundamentals designed to build a solid technical base, while intermediate and advanced practitioners work on positional sparring, advanced techniques, and competition strategy. The academy also offers dedicated kids’ classes for ages 4 to 12, focusing on coordination, confidence, and discipline. Training includes both gi and no-gi formats, allowing students to experience the full spectrum of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The schedule includes open mat sessions available to all adult students, providing additional time for drilling and live training outside of formal classes. The facility is wheelchair accessible and located inside the Shorewood Hills Shopping Center, making it convenient for local students and university affiliates. Forward BJJ encourages newcomers to take their first class with no pressure, offering loaner gis and guidance to help each person find their pace on the mats.
