Claim this gymFlint Jiu Jitsu is led by Professor Mike York, a black belt under Marcello Monteiro through Dan Allen, Dan Cousineau, and Carl Rowe. With two decades of experience on the mats and several years teaching, Mike emphasizes the technical side of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and focuses on breaking down techniques so students can apply them effectively under pressure. His son, Ethan York, trains and competes at a high level, often matching up against larger and more experienced opponents from a young age, reflecting the academy’s emphasis on practical skill development. The academy offers a structured Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program for boys and girls starting at age five. The program centers on discipline and effectiveness in training, aiming to prepare young practitioners for real situations. Flint Jiu Jitsu also specializes in training law enforcement officers, providing techniques proven useful in the field to enhance officer safety and community protection. In addition to traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Flint Jiu Jitsu partners with FWC Berston Boxing Club to run a mixed martial arts program. This collaboration combines Mike York’s grappling system with boxing instruction from Jason Crutchfield, a coach with experience at the Olympic and professional levels, to develop fighters capable in all aspects of MMA. The academy’s facility is wheelchair accessible, located at 4508 Van Slyke Rd in Flint, Michigan.
