Evolve Jiu Jitsu Ventura was founded in 2020 during the early months of the pandemic with the intent to create a safe and inclusive place for people to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu while focusing on personal growth. The academy is led by Professor Johnny, a 5th-degree black belt with over twenty years of experience who began teaching at age sixteen. His approach emphasizes breaking down complex techniques into understandable steps, fostering discipline and respect alongside physical skills. The school’s mission centers on helping students evolve both on and off the mats through consistent practice and self-improvement. Training at Evolve spans a wide range of ages and skill levels. The kids’ programs start as young as three years old with a pre-K class that builds balance and coordination, progressing through age-specific groups that focus on self-defense, anti-bullying strategies, and mental resilience. Teens and adults train in fundamentals, mixed-level gi classes, and no-gi sessions, with open mat times available for additional practice. The curriculum is designed to develop technical proficiency while encouraging values like perseverance and mutual respect. The facility is wheelchair accessible and offers a variety of class formats including parents-and-kids sessions and advanced kids and teens classes. Evolve also partners with local charter schools and community organizations to provide specialized self-defense classes and outreach events. The academy maintains a straightforward, disciplined atmosphere that supports steady progress and a deep understanding of Jiu Jitsu’s physical and mental demands.
