10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Ventura

10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Ventura is guided by head instructor Scott Ross, a third-degree black belt under Eddie Bravo with extensive experience leading fundamentals programs at 10th Planet Headquarters in Los Angeles. Alongside Ross, Matt Dempsey, a second-degree black belt and Truck specialist, co-leads the academy, bringing a decade of training at 10th Planet HQ to the Ventura mats. The coaching staff also includes Greg Hoffman, a Marine Corps veteran and brown belt who oversees early morning sessions, and Nick Lamoreaux, a purple belt with an NCAA wrestling background who blends wrestling techniques into the no-gi curriculum. Damien and Dominick Gonzalez, twin purple belts and top competitors, contribute heavily to the kids’ program and Foundations classes. The academy focuses exclusively on no-gi training, following the Eddie Bravo system’s core pillars: The Lockdown half-guard, The Truck back control, Rubber Guard, and a comprehensive leg lock game. Classes range from beginner Foundations to mixed-level sessions and specialized leg lock workshops. Wresting classes complement the BJJ curriculum, reflecting the instructors’ diverse grappling backgrounds. Open mat sessions are available regularly, providing students opportunities to drill and spar outside structured classes. The kids’ program emphasizes fundamentals alongside leadership and character development, with dedicated instructors experienced in youth coaching. Located at 1540 E Main St, the facility is fully wheelchair accessible and offers a schedule that runs seven days a week, including early mornings and weekend hours. Drop-ins are accepted, allowing visitors to experience the system firsthand before committing. Training at 10th Planet Ventura means engaging with a living, evolving no-gi system under coaches who have helped shape its development on the West Coast.
