Essence BJJ Danville

Essence BJJ Danville is led by Professor Vini Nunes, a black belt whose journey began on the mats of Rio de Janeiro and Brasília. After earning his black belt while training under Master Ataide Jr. and competing with the Constrictor Team, Vini moved to the United States in 2016, joining the Ralph Gracie Team and earning medals at major tournaments, including the No-Gi Worlds. His teaching draws on deep roots in the Gracie lineage—Mitsuyo Maeda to Carlos and Helio Gracie, through Armando Wridt and Ataíde Junior—emphasizing both technical skill and the personal growth that comes from dedicated practice. The academy’s classes reflect this philosophy, balancing fundamentals with practical self-defense and a sense of discipline rooted in the 7-5-3 code inspired by the samurai’s Bushido. Adult students can expect structured gi classes, including a Fundamentals program designed for newer practitioners and a Power Class for those looking to deepen their skills. Open mat sessions are a regular part of the schedule, giving students time to apply what they’ve learned in a less formal setting. Drop-ins are welcome, and the facility is wheelchair accessible. Essence BJJ also offers programs for children and women, as well as seasonal camps that mix Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and movement games. The school’s approach is shaped by the belief that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is more than a sport—it’s a lifestyle that unites people across generations and backgrounds, fostering confidence, respect, and lifelong learning.
