Cyclone Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Boutte, Louisiana is led by Professor Reny Ramos, a lifelong martial artist and BJJ black belt under the Carlos Machado lineage. Ramos brings a wide-ranging background that includes Taekwondo, Tang Soo Do, and a Guro rank in Pekiti Tirsia Kali, and he personally instructs adult and kids BJJ, catch wrestling, edged weapons, and self-protection classes. The teaching team also features Professor Alexis Tregle (1st degree black belt, focused on the children’s program and women’s classes), Professor Kyle Price (1st degree black belt under Professor Darren DeSalvo), and Professor Michael Tilley (2nd degree black belt). Instructors such as Professor Calvin Martin, Coach Jared Gallet, and Coach Blake Desoto add backgrounds in MMA, striking, and law enforcement, providing a practical edge to the curriculum. Cyclone’s programs are structured for both adults and children, with a strong emphasis on fundamentals and progressive training. The youth BJJ program is one of the largest in the Greater New Orleans area and is split into two core age groups: ages 4–6, where classes focus on movement, coordination, and playful drills, and ages 7–12, which introduce more technical jiu-jitsu and optional competition preparation. Adult classes cover all experience levels and include both gi-based Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and catch wrestling, following a Machado-affiliated curriculum designed to be accessible for beginners yet challenging for advanced students. Beyond BJJ, Cyclone offers a youth kickboxing program, edged weapons training based on Pekiti Tirsia Kali, and scenario-driven self-protection workshops. Classes meet five days a week, and drop-ins are welcome. The academy is wheelchair accessible and maintains a family-friendly environment, with some older kids occasionally joining adult sessions when appropriate.
