2020 NE Aloclek Dr Ste 105, Hillsboro, OR
CTA Hillsboro Jiu Jitsu has served the Hillsboro, Oregon area since 2009, founded by Nick Haloski and Shawn Chandler. The academy is a proud member of the Caio Terra Association, following the curriculum developed by 12-time world champion Professor Caio Terra. Head instructor Shawn Chandler, a black belt under Caio Terra with over a decade of experience, leads the team and has made regular trips to train at the CTA headquarters in San Jose and in Brazil. Assistant instructor Brysen Yoshimori, who began training in 2012 and holds a brown belt, is also part of the coaching staff. The academy offers a structured Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program for adults and children, with classes built around the CTA core curriculum. Adult students can choose from fundamentals and advanced classes in both gi and no-gi formats. The fundamentals program is designed to build a strong technical base, while advanced classes encourage students to apply concepts against resisting opponents. Open mat sessions are available for additional training and practice. For younger students, CTA Hillsboro provides age-specific classes for children ages 4–6 and 7–13, in both gi and no-gi. There is also a kids competitors class for those interested in testing their skills further. The academy’s approach emphasizes discipline, respect, and personal growth, aiming to help students succeed both on and off the mats. Caio Terra himself visits the gym every few months to teach and train with students, maintaining a direct connection to the association’s high standards. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and visitors are welcomed to try out classes before joining.
