Checkmat Clearwater Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) Adult and Kids Martial Arts is led by Professor Kauan Barboza, a black belt who grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Siouxsie Gomez-Barboza, also a black belt and dedicated instructor. Both bring years of experience on the mats and a clear focus on sharing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with students of all ages. Their backgrounds reflect a strong commitment to personal development and to empowering both adults and youth through martial arts. The academy offers a structured program for kids and teens ages 4 to 14, emphasizing foundational Jiu-Jitsu skills alongside leadership, discipline, and confidence. Adult classes cover both gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with instruction tailored to a range of experience levels. For those interested in testing their skills, there is a dedicated competition team, providing advanced training and preparation for tournaments under the Checkmat banner. Classes are available throughout the week, with flexible scheduling designed to accommodate busy families and working adults. The facility is wheelchair accessible. Whether students are looking to build practical self-defense skills, improve fitness, or pursue competition, Checkmat Clearwater provides a place to learn directly from passionate black belt instructors with deep roots in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
