Cascades BJJ

Cascades BJJ is led by Robert Cecil, who founded the academy after more than a decade of teaching experience and training under Big Brothers BJJ. Located in Fairfax, Virginia, the school reflects Cecil’s philosophy that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is about fluidity and adaptation—practitioners learn to flow with their opponent’s energy, smoothly transitioning between techniques much like a cascading stream. This approach shapes the academy’s culture and instruction style. Classes at Cascades focus primarily on traditional gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with fundamentals drilling and all-levels sessions for adults. The curriculum emphasizes technical development and seamless movement, supporting progression from beginner to advanced. The academy also hosts open mat sessions for both kids and adults, providing additional training opportunities beyond structured classes. The facility is wheelchair accessible, ensuring it can accommodate a range of students. Beyond gi training, Cascades BJJ maintains a close-knit team atmosphere under the guidance of coaches Robbi and Jay, who help foster a shared learning environment. The academy encourages visitors to come train and engage with instructors and teammates directly.
