Claim this gymCaridian Brazilian BJJ was founded in 2020 by Alan Ribeiro, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt who made Tampa his home after a lifetime dedicated to athletics and coaching. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Alan moved to the United States as a teenager on a swimming scholarship, later coaching at Florida State University while earning his MBA. His journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu began in earnest under Professor Fabio Novaes in Lakeland, Florida, with Alan earning his black belt and teaching under Novaes since 2016. Multiple IBJJF, Pan American, NAGA, and American Grappling Federation championships mark his competitive background, but the heart of the academy is Alan’s drive to share BJJ with as many people as possible. At Caridian, students find structured Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training for both adults and kids. The core of the program is gi-based BJJ, with additional no-gi classes for adults who want to expand their skills. Kids’ classes are available multiple times per week, focusing on age-appropriate technique and mat time. The academy also hosts regular open mats, welcoming all experience levels and offering drop-in access for visitors interested in training with the team. Alan’s approach to teaching reflects his lifelong commitment to coaching and mentorship. Drawing from both his competitive experience and years spent developing athletes in and out of the water, he emphasizes fundamentals, personal growth, and a steady progression through the art. Whether someone is stepping on the mat for the first time or looking to compete, Caridian Brazilian BJJ offers a grounded, lineage-driven path in Tampa’s growing Jiu-Jitsu scene.
