480 Old Canton Rd, Ball Ground, GA
Canton Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was founded on the idea that personal improvement comes before proving yourself, and that discipline, respect, and resilience are the true marks of progress. Owner and head instructor Layton Wilcox opened the academy in Ball Ground after years of training and competition, aiming to create a space where students could train seriously without the drama or rigid rules often found elsewhere. Since opening in 2016, Layton and his team—including Monica Wilcox, Gabe Fernandez, Ché Marshall, David Gassman, Pito Zabala, and Chris Schwarting—have made it their mission to support students at every stage, from hobbyists and competitors to law enforcement professionals. Classes at Canton BJJ are organized by age and experience, starting with kids at age 5 and continuing through adult programs. The academy’s core is traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with both gi and no-gi instruction available for youth and adults. Every class emphasizes practical skill development through a mix of technical drills, situational training, and live rolling. Students are encouraged to set their own goals, and instructors work alongside them to build accountability and confidence, whether the goal is better fitness, self-defense, or competition. The academy offers a full schedule including gi and no-gi classes for all ages, as well as open mat sessions that welcome drop-ins. Canton BJJ is also known for its work with local law enforcement and for maintaining an accessible, positive training environment. Located in the Elm Business Suites in downtown Ball Ground, the school provides a straightforward, energetic place to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in North Georgia.
