Burton Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is run by head coaches Travis and Dana Burton, who opened the doors in 2021 with a vision of building a gym rooted in excellence, family, and integrity. Travis brings over thirteen years of coaching experience, a background in corporate training, and an active competition record, while Dana draws on twelve years of BJJ coaching and a long history of leadership roles. Their approach blends technical precision with practical, hands-on instruction, aiming to help students of all backgrounds improve both on and off the mats. The coaching team at Burton BJJ is rounded out by experienced martial artists and professionals from varied fields. Assistant coach Stephen Eakin is a black belt, professional fighter, and lifelong student who emphasizes strong fundamentals and personal growth. Bryan Gresham brings more than a decade of BJJ experience and a law enforcement background, teaching control and composure under pressure. Children’s classes benefit from Natalie French’s two decades supporting neurodiverse kids, while Mark French draws on a decorated military career to foster discipline and resilience in young students. Wrestling coach Heith Daniels, a former state and regional champion, adds a competitive edge and a deep understanding of high-level grappling to the program. Students at Burton BJJ train primarily in gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with a clear fundamentals track for beginners and dedicated kids’ classes that keep youth development front and center. The schedule features open mat sessions for extra rounds and positional work, as well as a homeschool morning class that makes daytime training accessible for families. Drop-ins are welcome, and the facility is wheelchair accessible. The academy’s attention to technical detail and structured, family-oriented programs reflect its roots in both traditional BJJ and real-world application, making it a fixture for gi training in Middle Georgia.
