Buckhead BJJ

Buckhead BJJ was founded by Sam Joseph, a fifth-degree black belt, with the vision of building more than just a place to train—he set out to create a genuine community for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Atlanta. Sam leads a team of experienced instructors, each bringing their own background and energy to the mats. The academy’s story is rooted in the belief that Jiu-Jitsu is a vehicle for personal transformation and connection as much as it is a martial art. Classes at Buckhead BJJ are structured to welcome newcomers and provide steady progression for dedicated practitioners. Beginners typically start with an Intro to Jiu-Jitsu class before joining Fundamentals, which is tailored for white and blue belts but open to all ranks. The regular schedule includes both gi and no-gi training for adults, with all-levels classes ensuring access for everyone ready to train. Kids’ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes are also a core part of the program, offering young students structured instruction and a positive environment. The academy operates out of a 3,300-square-foot facility on Hills Ave NW, with 2,000 square feet of mat space, separate changing rooms, and a lounge area for students and families. Open mat sessions are held regularly for members and drop-in visitors, reflecting the school’s open-door approach. At Buckhead BJJ, the focus remains on respect, encouragement, and shared growth—values that have shaped the gym since its earliest days.
