Owner and head instructor Mike Braswell brings a direct lineage from Professor Allen Hopkins, and his teaching reflects years of hands-on work with students from fundamentals through advanced ranks. The instructor team includes black belts such as Jon Mulkey and Bassel Maghoub, as well as coaches like Johnny Garner and Jeannie Carter, each contributing their own expertise to a busy weekly schedule. Classes are divided clearly by age and experience level. Kids’ programs are a major focus, with Lil Champs, white belt, and advanced groups meeting throughout the week—often under the watch of instructors dedicated to youth development. Adult students can choose from fundamentals, advanced gi, and no-gi classes, plus dedicated competition training for those preparing for tournaments. The academy’s regular open mat sessions and Q&A classes give members extra space to refine technique or roll outside structured class times. Beyond jiu jitsu, the academy offers Muay Thai, kickboxing, and fitness-focused sessions, broadening the skills and conditioning available to students. Self-defense remains a stated priority, and law enforcement-oriented classes appear on the schedule. Drop-ins are welcome, making this gym accessible to travelers and cross-trainers from the wider Shreveport-Bossier area. The mix of formats and the presence of experienced coaches make the academy a practical fit for grapplers interested in both the tradition and evolution of BJJ in north Louisiana.
