Boca Team BJJ USA in Oviedo is led by Professor Vagner Cruz, known worldwide as Vagner Boca. With nearly three decades on the mats, Professor Boca’s journey began at age 14 under Professor Luiz Barboza of Gracie Barra Rio de Janeiro. He earned his black belt from Professors Fernando Tererê and Eduardo Telles at TT Team Brazil and went on to build a global teaching legacy, guiding over 80 students to black belt and delivering more than 200 seminars across Europe, South America, and the USA. His competition record spans titles in the Nordeste Open, Amsterdam Open, Polish League, and podium finishes at the European and World Championships. The academy’s programs reflect Professor Boca’s emphasis on authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and practical self-defense. Classes are available for all ages, starting with gi instruction for little kids (ages 3–5), kids, and teens, including specialized sessions for invited teens and advanced adults. Adults train in both gi and no-gi, with all-levels and advanced classes available. Women’s gi and homeschooler classes are part of the weekly schedule, and the academy also offers kickboxing/self-defense for both adults and children—broadening the skill set beyond grappling. Boca Team’s teaching philosophy is rooted in respect, discipline, and the belief that Jiu-Jitsu builds confidence and a sense of belonging. The school welcomes drop-ins and provides wheelchair-accessible facilities. Professor Boca’s experience as a coach and mentor to athletes and instructors worldwide is reflected in the academy’s structured progression and the international network of Boca Team affiliates who share his vision.
