BAZA Jiu Jitsu in North Hollywood is led by Mateus Rodrigues, a black belt with nine world championship titles and four Pan American championships to his name. Rodrigues remains an active competitor, ranked in the top ten of the black belt absolute division as recently as 2025, which means students train alongside someone who continues to test himself at the highest levels. This competitive focus shapes the academy’s approach, emphasizing disciplined, purposeful training that pushes practitioners to improve steadily. The academy offers a full range of classes for both adults and kids, with gi and no-gi sessions available. Kids’ classes start as young as age four and include fundamentals as well as advanced and competition-focused training. Adults can attend gi classes, no-gi sessions, and specialized wrestling and takedown classes to round out their grappling skill set. Training runs six days a week, giving students plenty of opportunities to build technique, conditioning, and sparring experience. BAZA’s philosophy centers on discipline, respect, and ongoing growth. The environment reflects these values through structured classes and a culture that expects focus and effort from every participant. The facility is wheelchair accessible and welcomes drop-ins, making it accessible for a variety of students.
