AUTORE BJJ was founded in 2021 by brothers Alexis and Gustavo Fonseca, both black belts who began their Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey in Hawaii and later honed their craft at Art of Jiu Jitsu under the Mendes Brothers. Their time at AOJ shaped the academy’s foundation, emphasizing a modern, technical, and structured approach to BJJ. Bringing years of dedicated training and competition experience to Los Angeles, the Fonseca brothers have built AUTORE on precision, progression, and a high standard for instruction. Classes at AUTORE follow a clear progression for adults, beginning with Fundamentals (Level 1) in the gi. This program introduces core positions, submissions, and escapes before advancing to Level 2, where students develop a modern guard and passing style through focused drilling and live training. No-gi classes are offered as a dynamic complement to the gi curriculum, with foundational and advanced instruction available to all levels. The academy’s schedule is designed to meet students at every stage, whether they are new to the mats or looking to refine their competitive game. Youth classes are grouped by age—3–5, 6–9, and 10–14—providing a structured environment where kids develop real self-defense skills, improve fitness, and build confidence. AUTORE’s programs reflect the Fonseca brothers’ commitment to clear, effective instruction and a modern style of jiu-jitsu rooted in their AOJ lineage. The academy welcomes visitors and drop-ins, and the facility is wheelchair accessible, serving the Brentwood and Pacific Palisades area of West Los Angeles.
