Alliance Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Alliance Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Memphis is led by Professor Alexandre Meadows, a third-degree black belt under Marcelo Garcia with over 20 years on the mats. Meadows brought his experience back to his hometown after competing internationally, including winning multiple IBJJF Pan Am titles and the No-Gi World Championship at brown belt. Since opening the academy in 2016, he has focused on building a training space that reflects his competitive mindset and technical approach, emphasizing the “iron sharpens iron” philosophy among students and instructors. Training at the academy covers both gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with a structured schedule that includes three weekly gi classes and two no-gi sessions. The gi classes focus on fundamentals and advanced techniques, blending positional drilling and live sparring, while no-gi emphasizes dynamic submission chains and wrestling takedowns to develop explosive cardio and adaptability. Open mat sessions are available for adults to refine skills and prepare for competition. The gym also maintains a solid kids program that balances technical instruction with engaging activities to nurture confidence, discipline, and respect. The coaching staff includes several experienced black and purple belts who contribute to a diverse curriculum. Tyler Rudd and Doug Larson support the adult classes, with Larson bringing a kinesiology background to no-gi instruction. The kids’ classes are led by Talor French and Anthony Giancola, who integrate wrestling and playful drills to keep younger students motivated. Located in Memphis’s Midtown neighborhood, the academy offers one of the largest mat spaces in the area and is wheelchair accessible, making it a practical training hub for a broad range of practitioners.
