Claim this gym3 Embers Grappling Academy in McKinney is led by a team of dedicated black belts who took the reins after Alan Shebaro stepped away from full-time instruction. The academy is now an affiliate of Alex Martins Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, drawing on Martins’ 25 years of experience and deep roots in the Faustino Piña association in Manaus, Brazil. Owners Misty McMillan, Mike Anderson, and Justin Wood continue the tradition of technical, lineage-driven Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, maintaining a strong connection to the heritage and expertise of their instructors. The class structure at 3 Embers covers both gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for adults, along with a full slate of youth classes in each format. The academy also offers adult judo, providing students with a well-grounded approach to both standing and ground grappling. For more experienced practitioners, there is a dedicated competition class in the gi, while open mat sessions are available to the public and encourage cross-training among members and visitors. Youth programs are a mainstay, with separate gi and no-gi instruction for kids, supporting skill development from an early age. Drop-ins are welcome for most classes, making the academy accessible to traveling students or those looking for a new training environment. The schedule is designed to support everyone from hobbyists to serious competitors, with a focus on practical progression and technical depth rooted in the Alex Martins lineage.
