Zero Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Zero Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in York, PA, runs a structured program designed to meet students at every stage of their training. Adult members can expect a clear progression, starting with BJJ Essentials classes in the gi, then moving into both traditional gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sessions. The schedule also features open mat times and dedicated classes for kickboxing and MMA/striking, providing a well-defined path for those interested in grappling, striking, or combining both. For younger athletes, Zero BJJ offers kids’ Jiu-Jitsu and kickboxing, as well as a competition class that gives committed youth a place to sharpen their skills. The academy was founded in 2014 by Michael Oberdick, who earned his black belt under Daniel Beleza—one of the earliest Americans to do so. Oberdick’s journey began in Miami with Pedro and Guillermo Valente (Helio Gracie lineage) before returning to York and continuing under Beleza, whose roots trace to Nova Uniao and SAS Jiu Jitsu. Today, Oberdick leads a seasoned team of black belts, including Wes Franklin, Stephen Rodriguez, Shea Banks, Mike Gehman, Austin Denoncourt, Shayne Neiderer, and Anthony Covington, supported by a deep bench of brown, purple, and blue belts. Zero BJJ operates out of a spacious, two-story, 13,000 square foot facility with a first-floor gym and 5,000 square feet of mat space upstairs. Drop-ins are welcome, and the academy’s programs are open to adults and kids of all experience levels. The school’s philosophy centers on discipline, grit, and helping each member push their limits—reflecting the founder’s own path and the academy’s commitment to practical, lifelong martial arts training.
