West Idaho Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is led by Professors Tom Steele and Nikolas Williams, both black belts with deep roots in the art. Steele began training in 2004 at Gracie Barra Seattle and earned his black belt in 2018 under Mitch Coats. Williams started at age 10 in Santa Cruz, training under Garth Taylor, Caio Terra, and Paul Schriener before receiving his black belt in 2023 from Steele and Marcos Torregrosa. The academy is affiliated with Yemaso BJJ, founded by Marcos “Yemaso” Torregrosa, a third-degree black belt known for his competitive record including multiple World and Pan-American titles. The curriculum at West Idaho BJJ balances traditional gi classes with extensive no-gi instruction. Adults can train fundamentals, advanced techniques, and competition strategies in both gi and no-gi formats. The school also offers wrestling and takedown classes to complement grappling skills. Women’s only classes provide focused training environments, while kickboxing rounds out the striking side of the academy’s offerings. Open mat sessions and private lessons are available to support individual progress. West Idaho’s kids program is structured by age and skill level, with separate gi and no-gi classes designed to teach discipline, respect, and perseverance alongside BJJ techniques. Nikolas Williams leads the youth curriculum, drawing on years of experience coaching children. The academy’s schedule runs early mornings through evenings Monday to Friday, with weekend classes to accommodate families and working adults. Located in Star, Idaho, the school serves students from the surrounding communities including Eagle, Middleton, and Boise.
