Victorum Athletics in Lancaster, CA, is rooted in a mission that goes beyond Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction. Founded in 2017 by Frank Balcorta, a veteran and Pepperdine graduate, the academy began as a project to support veterans, active duty military personnel, and their families. Frank and his team launched the school to provide a place where those facing the challenges of transition and reconnection could find support through BJJ, and that purpose remains central to how the academy operates today. Classes at Victorum run the full spectrum of gi-based Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu—from fundamentals for beginners, to intermediate and advanced sessions for experienced grapplers. The schedule also includes a dedicated women’s BJJ class and a kids’ program, reflecting the academy’s focus on practical skill-building across age groups and backgrounds. Open mats are a regular feature, giving students a chance to apply what they’ve learned in a less structured setting. Drop-ins are welcome, making it easy for visitors or those new to the area to step on the mat. The 3,600 square foot facility was designed to foster calmness and camaraderie, with the intent of creating a humble, peaceful training environment. Instruction at Victorum is guided by principles of dialogue, active participation, and personal perseverance, encouraging every student to push their own limits while contributing to a cause larger than themselves. The academy’s story and day-to-day practice are tightly linked—each class is shaped by the belief that victory comes through perseverance, both on and off the mats.
