Unity Jiu Jitsu Valley Stream

Unity Jiu Jitsu Valley Stream was founded by Professor Fabio Alves, a black belt under Murilo Santana and a lifelong martial artist originally from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Fabio’s journey began in capoeira and judo before a Royce Gracie fight inspired him to dedicate himself to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, first training under Master Maricio Robbe of Gracie Barra Bahia. After overcoming a serious motorcycle accident that kept him off the mats for six years, Fabio joined Unity Jiu Jitsu in New York City as soon as it opened in 2015 and earned his black belt from Professor Santana in 2021. In 2023, with Murilo’s encouragement, he opened this academy in Valley Stream to share his experience and approach to BJJ. Classes at Unity Jiu Jitsu Valley Stream are structured around both gi and no-gi training, with a strong emphasis on fundamentals and steady progression for all levels. Adults can expect dedicated classes for white belts, all-levels gi sessions, and no-gi instruction, as well as weekly wrestling classes led by Professor Fabio. Open mats provide time for students to apply what they’ve learned and roll in a less formal setting. The academy also runs a women’s only class, creating a focused space for women to train together. For younger students, the kids’ program welcomes children ages 4 to 12, introducing them to the principles of BJJ in a structured, supportive environment. Uniform guidelines reflect the academy’s attention to detail: white gis for gi classes and black rashguards and shorts for no-gi. Drop-in visitors are welcomed for a free first day if they’re local to NY, NJ, or CT, and newcomers to jiu-jitsu receive an introductory lesson.
