1098 South Jordan Pkwy 107 & #108, South Jordan, UT
Unified Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been a fixture in South Jordan since 2006, founded by a team of five Pedro Sauer black belts who helped establish Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Salt Lake City area. The academy is led by John Carlquist and James Gardner, both black belts with roots tracing back to training under Master Pedro Sauer in the late 1990s. Together, they bring over 50 years of combined experience to the mats, shaping the school’s approach around effective self-defense and practical application for both everyday life and competition. The academy’s programs reflect its deep lineage and teaching expertise. Adult students can progress through a structured path, starting with beginner gi classes taught by John Carlquist and moving into advanced gi sessions with both Gardner and Carlquist. No-gi training is also a regular part of the schedule, with foundational and advanced classes led by instructors such as Damon Morgan and Fernando Escovar. Specialized offerings include positional gi classes, mixed-format sessions, and open mat times, with drop-ins welcome for most classes. Unified BJJ also invests in the next generation with dedicated kids and teens gi classes, taught by Gardner and Carlquist. Women’s training is supported through a women’s-only class led by Helen Litovsky and a women’s open mat. The school’s long-standing presence, experienced instructors, and variety of programs make it a central part of South Jordan’s martial arts landscape. The facility is wheelchair accessible, reflecting a practical commitment to accessibility and inclusion.
