At Tupelo Jiu Jitsu Academy, head instructor Cody Floyd believes that everyone has the potential to be a champion, whether their goals are fitness, self-defense, or competition. Cody is Tupelo’s first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt and has spent over fifteen years dedicating himself to BJJ and MMA, both as a practitioner and a teacher. He draws on his experience leading MMA teams and guiding students who have competed in major promotions like Strikeforce, Bellator, and LFA. The academy is built on his commitment to personal growth through proven martial arts training and a focus on technique, discipline, and perseverance. Classes at the academy are structured to support steady progress for students of all ages. For adults, both gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are taught, including fundamentals, open mat sessions, and competition rounds for those preparing to test themselves. There are dedicated women’s classes, as well as MMA striking and fitness kickboxing to round out the training. The youth program welcomes kids ages 5 to 13, with both gi and no-gi classes that emphasize the fundamentals of Jiu Jitsu in a safe, engaging setting. Young athletes also have the chance to train in youth MMA. The schedule is designed to make training accessible, with drop-ins welcome and a wheelchair-accessible facility. Whether someone is looking to compete, learn self-defense, or simply enjoy the physical and mental benefits of martial arts, Tupelo Jiu Jitsu Academy offers a direct path under the guidance of a local black belt who has shaped the sport in the area.
