True JiuJitsu Academy offers a structured curriculum that guides students through fundamental to advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques in both gi and no-gi formats. Kids begin with fundamentals in gi classes before progressing to advanced levels, including specialized no-gi training. Adults train across all levels, with classes that emphasize traditional gi techniques alongside no-gi sessions that incorporate freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling elements to enhance takedown and control skills. Open mat sessions for kids and adults provide additional time for drilling and sparring in a less formal setting. The academy is led by Shane Zeringue, a third-degree black belt who started training in 1996 and has competed successfully at major IBJJF events, including the Pan American Championships and Austin International Open. Shane’s teaching approach focuses on mastering the basics as the foundation for evolving in the sport. He began instructing in 2000 and has maintained strong ties with his original team while building the Round Rock program since relocating to the Austin area in 2009. Kris, a first-degree black belt and accomplished competitor, supports the academy’s operations and member communications. True JiuJitsu’s kids program emphasizes practical skills that benefit children both on and off the mats, including physical fitness, focus, discipline, and problem-solving. The adult classes welcome men and women at various fitness and experience levels, supporting hobbyists and competitors alike. Drop-ins are accepted, and visitors are invited to join open mat sessions to train alongside the regular students. The academy is located on Sam Bass Road in Round Rock, providing a consistent training environment focused on traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with complementary wrestling influences.
