Claim this gymThe Mississauga Academy of Martial Arts teaches BJJ with a clear coaching philosophy: technical control first, then gradual introduction of resistance and situational problem-solving. That approach is reflected in regular classes where drills emphasise positional control and transitions before adding live resistance; instructors break techniques into measurable steps so students can track incremental improvement. Renshi Ian Jay is listed as Head BJJ Instructor and Mr. Patrick Michelacci, Mr. Sheldon Weekes and Mr. Joe Guillaume are identified as BJJ coaches who deliver the teen and adult curriculum. BJJ at AMA is framed as practical self-defence for ages 13 and up, taught inside a larger multi-discipline school that has operated since 1996. The academy maintains a schedule of multiple weekly classes for teens and adults; sessions mix technique, partner drilling and situational sparring to mirror the stated emphasis on control and progressive training. Classes sit alongside Goju Ryu Karate, Tai Chi and other programs in a professional facility at 6790 Kitimat Rd Unit 8, Mississauga, ON L5N 5M1. The dojo also lists broader program goals such as fitness, leadership development and character education, and notes a roster of more than 20 black belt instructors across its disciplines. For practical enquiries—class times, trial arrangements and registration—contact details published by the academy are phone 289-997-3666 and email mississauga@amadojo.ca.
