The Empire Jiu Jitsu

The Empire Jiu Jitsu is led by Professor Ken Alfaro, a black belt who began training in Houston in 2008. Ken earned his blue belt under Jorge Macaco and progressed through purple, brown, and black belts with Victor Pozas, a student of Dean Lister. Before founding The Empire Jiu Jitsu in 2017, Ken taught at a local UFC gym from 2015 to 2017. When that gym closed, he opened this academy to continue providing a dedicated space for serious training and competition preparation. His own competitive background includes appearances at events like the Onnit Invitational, ADCC, and multiple NAGA championships. The academy focuses on no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for both kids and adults, with classes designed to develop technique, fitness, and self-defense skills. Alongside no-gi training, The Empire offers striking classes to complement grappling skills. Students progress through beginner and advanced levels, with private lessons and open mat sessions available to support individual development. The kids’ program emphasizes discipline and confidence, while adult classes prepare practitioners for competition and practical application. Located on Jackrabbit Road in Houston, the facility is wheelchair accessible and serves practitioners from the Houston and Cypress areas. The training environment prioritizes steady improvement through technical instruction and live training. Under Ken Alfaro’s guidance, students regularly compete in local and national tournaments including IBJJF and Submission Hunter Pro, reflecting the academy’s emphasis on both skill and competitive readiness.
