Team One Louisville Jiu Jitsu is built around Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu first, with judo, Muay Thai and wrestling added to help students become more complete martial artists. The academy describes BJJ as its main focus and uses the other disciplines to strengthen areas that naturally connect to grappling, including throws, takedowns, striking and self-defense. The adult jiu-jitsu program includes both gi and no-gi classes, with an emphasis on fundamentals, advanced strategy and live training. Kids ages 4–13 have their own program, and the academy also offers youth access to judo, wrestling and MMA-based training. The judo program develops balance, falling and throwing skills, while wrestling gives students another route into takedowns and top control. Team One is a good example of a school that lets students specialize in jiu-jitsu while still giving them room to broaden their game. Someone who wants to focus only on BJJ can do that, while a student interested in becoming a more complete martial artist can add judo, wrestling or Muay Thai without leaving the academy. That traditional, cross-training mindset is a big part of how Team One approaches martial arts in Louisville.
