Team Blackout Adults & Youth Boxing in Sierra Vista is led by owners Jose Perez and Curtis Washington, both of whom have deep ties to the local area. Jose, a former strength and conditioning coach for Buena High, and Curtis, who first came to Sierra Vista during their military service, founded the academy with a focus on making martial arts accessible for families and children, especially those who might not have the budget for typical gym memberships. Their commitment to the city is rooted in giving back to the community that became their home. Now a proud member of Soul Fighters Jiu-Jitsu under the tutelage of Augusto "Tanquinho" Mendes, Blackout offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction grounded in the principles of technique and leverage. The academy’s BJJ program includes gi classes for both adults and kids, as well as open mat sessions that welcome practitioners of all levels. Kids and adults often train side by side, reflecting the founders’ emphasis on family and inclusion in every class. Beyond Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the schedule features boxing, MMA, and additional offerings like Judo, boot camps, and Tai Chi, providing a broad martial arts education. Drop-ins are welcome in many classes, making it easy for locals or visitors to step onto the mats. With over six years of service in Sierra Vista, Blackout continues to prioritize practical self-defense, fitness, and the growth of martial arts for all ages.
