2004 16th St, Moline, IL
Located in Moline, TARPEINS NEXT GENERATION MARTIAL ARTS & BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU is shaped by the lifelong dedication and family legacy of Sensei Travis Tarpein. Travis began his martial arts journey under his father, Nick Tarpein, and quickly rose to become a brown belt in his teens. He later earned a black belt in Shorei-Ryu karate just before turning 21 and went on to lead the Moline school, eventually taking ownership and expanding its reach. Travis is a first-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under the Carlson Gracie Team, the only Iowa black belt with that lineage, and continues to train with Jeff Neal and Carlson Gracie Jr., carrying forward both family tradition and the Carlson Gracie approach. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Tarpein’s Dojo centers around structured gi classes for adults and children, from basics to more advanced drills like BJJ Ladders. The curriculum reflects Travis’s deep roots in traditional martial arts and modern grappling, with additional classes in no-gi BJJ for adults. The academy also offers a broad range of programs including Shorei-Ryu karate, Muay Thai kickboxing, judo, and sambo, all delivered with a focus on practical skill development and discipline. Young students benefit from dedicated classes in kids’ BJJ, karate, self-defense, and judo, while adults can choose from open mat sessions, striking, and grappling. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and drop-in visitors are welcome for most classes. Tarpein’s Dojo stands as a testament to the Tarpein family’s decades-long commitment to martial arts in the Quad Cities, blending tradition with a modern, hands-on approach to training.
