Claim this gymSynapse Jiu Jitsu was founded in 2025 by Nicolas Germanos and Eleanor Kahn with the intention of creating a high-level, beginner-friendly academy in Bellevue that caters to students of all ages, abilities, and identities. Nicolas, the head coach, holds a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt and brings over a decade of experience both competing and coaching, alongside a background in neurobiology and computational neuroscience. Eleanor manages the gym’s operations, applying her project management expertise to maintain consistent programming and foster a culture focused on respect and open communication. Their approach emphasizes thoughtful teaching methods and encourages curiosity and collaboration in every class. Training at Synapse centers on student growth and empowerment, with classes designed to engage each individual’s development rather than expecting everyone to follow a single template. The gym offers adult classes that welcome all levels, including specialized sessions such as women and non-binary BJJ, as well as a no-gi leg lock class that allows drop-ins. This variety reflects Synapse’s commitment to supporting diverse training interests within Brazilian Jiu Jitsu’s traditional framework. Youth programs are a key part of Synapse’s curriculum, starting with classes for children as young as five. These programs aim to develop confidence and skill through age-appropriate instruction that balances technique with the values of respect and empowerment. The academy also hosts seasonal jiu jitsu camps for kids, providing an immersive experience that helps young grapplers build a strong foundation in the art.
