Claim this gymSustainable Jiu Jitsu in Joondalup was founded by Professor James Woodfield-Jones, a 4th degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Master Joe Moreira. With over 43 years in martial arts and more than two decades spent coaching, Professor Woodfield-Jones brings a lifetime’s dedication to teaching and personal development. His experience spans from his early days in Shotokan karate in the UK to a deep commitment to BJJ and self-protection after moving to Australia as a child. The academy operates as a private coaching facility, focusing on one-to-one instruction, small group training, and classes. The teaching approach at Sustainable Jiu Jitsu is built around the concepts of self-belief, self-control, and self-protection. Training covers all aspects of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, including stand-up, clinch, and ground work, always prioritising efficiency, effectiveness, and safety. Professor Woodfield-Jones’s philosophy is to train live and in context, ensuring that students develop skills for real-world self-protection as well as sport. Sustainable Jiu Jitsu offers both gi and no-gi training, with a strong emphasis on principles and technique rather than reliance on the uniform. The curriculum includes dedicated programs for clinch work and stand-up situations, recognising that every encounter starts on the feet. Knife defence is also a formal part of the self-protection program, available as a stand-alone course. Seminars and workshops are run both locally and internationally, reflecting the academy’s commitment to ongoing learning and community engagement.
