Superior Jiu Jitsu

Superior Jiu Jitsu is led by Professor Lael Rodrigues, a Brazilian black belt from São Paulo with a deep lineage tracing from Mitsuyo Maeda through Carlos and Helio Gracie, Rickson Gracie, Marcelo Behring, Waldomiro Perez, Roberto Godoi, and Marco Barbosa. Professor Lael brings not only high-level technical knowledge but also a history of using Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to create positive change, including his work with the Novos Sonhos project in São Paulo, where he helped at-risk youth find a new path through the art. Classes at Superior Jiu Jitsu are built around structured progression for both kids and adults. The academy runs gi-focused programs such as Beginners, Intermediate, and Mixed classes for adults, as well as dedicated groups for children—Superior Mini, Juniors, and Kids—making it possible for young students to grow within the art from their earliest years. No-gi is also part of the schedule, with both regular classes and open mats, giving students the chance to develop a broader grappling skillset. Open mat sessions and a drop-in friendly approach make the school accessible to visitors and traveling practitioners. The facility is wheelchair accessible, reflecting an effort to welcome a wide range of students. Superior Jiu Jitsu serves Superior, WI and the greater Duluth area, with a focus on practical self-defense, personal growth, and connecting people to the roots and discipline of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
