Sticks and Stones Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was founded in Lake City, Florida, to give families a place to train together and build confidence through martial arts. The academy is led by Master Roberto Traven, a coral belt and respected figure in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with instruction also provided by black belts Michael McInally and Corey Anderson. With an emphasis on both self-defense and personal development, the school was created to offer children and adults a path toward discipline, respect, and lasting fitness. Classes at Sticks and Stones follow a traditional gi-based curriculum, with separate programs for kids and adults. The kids’ program welcomes students from ages 4 to 14, focusing on fundamental techniques, self-control, and the belt ranking system as a way to set and achieve goals. Older teens typically transition to the adult classes, which continue the technical progression and reinforce the core values of the art. Every class includes a strong fitness component, blending warm-ups with running, jumping, and stretching to keep students active and healthy. The academy also holds open mat sessions for adults, giving students a chance to practice techniques and spar outside of structured classes. Drop-ins are welcome, and the facility is wheelchair accessible. Sticks and Stones remains committed to helping Lake City families grow stronger—on and off the mats—by teaching practical self-defense and the lifelong benefits of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
