Southern Soul Jiu Jitsu Academy - Renzo Gracie Emerald Coast was founded on the belief that martial arts should shape lives, not just teach techniques. Located in Mary Esther, Florida, the academy is led by Professor Shane Lees, who brings nearly two decades of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu experience to the mats. Alongside Shane, coaches Kevin and Lexi Rutkowski help create an environment where families and individuals from across the Emerald Coast—including Navarre, Fort Walton Beach, and Gulf Breeze—can find their place in the art. The academy is part of the Renzo Gracie lineage, with a focus on technical instruction, personal growth, and building genuine connections among students. Training at Southern Soul is structured to serve both kids and adults at every stage. The youngest students start in the Minis program for ages 4–5, while the main Kids BJJ classes welcome children 6–12. These sessions emphasize discipline, confidence, and real self-defense in a fun, encouraging setting. For adults, the academy offers morning and evening Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes, open mat sessions for extra practice, and a Muay Thai program led by Daniel Dorrough of Top Tier Muay Thai. The schedule is designed to let families train together or on their own, and drop-ins are welcome for most classes. The heart of Southern Soul is its culture—one that values teamwork, respect, and lifelong learning. The academy’s mission is to help students of all backgrounds become stronger, more resilient people through martial arts.
