Ruffhouse Jiu Jitsu Columbus is led by owner and instructor Chris Larkin, a veteran and active competitor who has been teaching martial arts in the Gahanna area since 2011. After serving in the Army during the 1990s, Chris found his passion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA competition, continuing to test himself in tournaments including a 2023 IBJJF win. Under his guidance, Ruffhouse has expanded twice and moved into a new facility in 2025, with a strong focus on youth development and personalized instruction that goes beyond rote technique memorization. Classes at Ruffhouse cater to a broad range of ages and interests, featuring Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fundamentals and advanced training for adults, alongside dedicated programs for kids starting as young as four. The academy offers women-only BJJ classes led by Purple Belt Coach Sarah Hughes, emphasizing practical self-defense and positional control. Youth wrestling rounds out the grappling curriculum, preparing younger students with foundational skills useful both on the mats and in school competition. Striking classes covering Muay Thai, MMA, and boxing provide a stand-up component to complement ground work. Training options include gi and no-gi classes, open mats for all ages, and private lessons tailored to individual needs. The schedule runs Monday through Friday with weekend open mats and competition team sessions. The facility is wheelchair accessible, supporting a diverse group of students pursuing martial arts in a family-oriented, focused environment where respect and personal growth are emphasized alongside competition readiness.
