Rogue Jiu Jitsu Academy in Conroe, Texas, is led by a tight-knit group of co-owners who have made the gym their life’s work. Matt Wilson, a third-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, began his journey in 2008 and has been dedicated to the art ever since. After earning his black belt in 2014, Matt started Rogue out of his own garage and steadily built it into a thriving academy. He is joined by Justin Overstreet, who first stepped onto the mats in 2013—motivated by his daughter’s competitive drive—and earned his black belt under Matt’s guidance. Richard Villar, another black belt and Army veteran, brings his own story of transformation to the school, focusing on building confidence and character in young students. Together, the leadership team is committed to developing both skill and personal growth on and off the mats. Training at Rogue covers a full spectrum for both adults and kids. The adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program offers gi and no-gi classes, with dedicated fundamentals sessions for newcomers and advanced classes that focus on positional training and high-level technique. Morning, lunch, and evening classes provide flexibility for busy schedules. Kids can join age-appropriate gi and no-gi classes, with Richard Villar overseeing the Little Spartans program and emphasizing discipline and self-esteem. The academy also runs a robust Muay Thai and striking program, led by Kamron Murray, whose background includes Marine Corps instruction and championship experience in Thailand and the U.S. Both kids and adults can train striking, with open mat sessions available for BJJ and Muay Thai. Visitors dropping in from other gyms are welcome at no charge, and loaner gis and belts are available for first-timers. The facility features over 3,200 square feet of mat space and is wheelchair accessible. The focus at Rogue remains on practical skill-building, live training, and fostering a lifelong appreciation for martial arts, rooted in the dedication of instructors who have seen the art change their own lives.
