Rising Tide Academy (Finksburg)

Rising Tide Academy (Finksburg) was founded in 2009 by brothers Mike and Jordan Stewart, both black belts under Grandmaster Relson Gracie. Drawing directly from the Gracie lineage, the Stewarts set out to provide a home for authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai in Carroll County. The Finksburg location offers 5,500 square feet of temperature-controlled mat space, designed to accommodate everyone from first-day students to experienced martial artists. The academy’s class schedule reflects its dedication to both tradition and versatility. Gi-based fundamentals and advanced classes form the core of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program, with offerings for adults and kids at various times throughout the week. No-gi instruction is available daily, including specialized sessions for women and adult competitors. Children’s programs start with the Little Sharks class and progress through junior and advanced levels, while wrestling fundamentals and competition-focused classes round out the grappling curriculum. Students also have access to Muay Thai, MMA fundamentals, and regular open mat sessions for additional practice. Rising Tide’s teaching philosophy centers on practical self-defense and teamwork, with experienced instructors guiding students in a friendly, safety-conscious environment. The academy emphasizes cleanliness and maintains well-equipped facilities, including showers and locker rooms.
