Renzo Gracie Jiu Jitsu - Middletown, NJ opened its doors in 1998 to bring authentic Gracie lineage Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to the Jersey Shore. For over 25 years, the academy has held to its original mission: to offer real instruction, rooted directly in Renzo Gracie’s technical legacy, for students of all ages and backgrounds. The school’s approach is shaped by decades of mat time and a teaching philosophy that balances tradition with the needs of modern students, from first-timers to experienced grapplers. Classes are structured across clear age groups and skill levels, with programs for kids as young as four, juniors, teens, and adults. The curriculum covers both gi and no-gi BJJ, with fundamentals, blue belt, and advanced classes available in each format. Young students are grouped by developmental stage—ages 4–6, 7–9, and 10–15—while adults can train in morning, evening, and weekend sessions, including specialized drilling, open mat, and wrestling classes. Every class is run by instructors who trace their technical roots directly through Renzo Gracie, keeping the academy’s instruction consistent with its origins. The facility itself is a standout: 34,000 square feet of mat space, weights, locker rooms, sauna, and lap pool, all included for adult members.
