Claim this gymRenzo Gracie Brazilian BJJ in Smithfield, Rhode Island, is part of the broader Renzo Gracie lineage, carrying forward the approach and technical focus championed by Renzo and his direct students. While the website does not list a local head professor by name, the academy’s programs reflect a structure typical of schools with close ties to the Renzo Gracie network, emphasizing both foundational and advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a gi, as well as no-gi training for adults. Classes here are organized to serve a range of experience levels. Adult students can join all-levels gi classes, step up to advanced gi sessions, or focus on no-gi and masters training, which caters to both younger adults and those with more years on the mat. The academy also runs a Kids BJJ program in the gi, allowing younger students to build their skills from an early age and experience structured progression within the art. Open mat sessions are available for adults, with drop-ins welcome, making it easy for visitors and traveling practitioners to join the training. The schedule is designed for accessibility and progression, supporting everyone from new white belts to experienced competitors. The presence of both gi and no-gi classes, along with specific time set aside for open mat, reflects a balanced approach rooted in the Renzo Gracie tradition. The academy’s location on Douglas Pike offers a practical training option for the Smithfield area, maintaining the standards and curriculum expected of a school with Renzo Gracie affiliation.
