Rampart Academy Jiu Jitsu in White House Station, NJ is led by Professor Werner Rodas, whose journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu began in 1997 at Alex Wilkie’s Martial Arts Academy with a foundation in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. After a decade-long pause to focus on family and a law enforcement career, Werner returned to the mats, earning his blue belt under Josef Manuel, his purple belt as part of Team Alliance with Nelson Puentes, and ultimately his black belt from David Phimsipasom in 2020. Werner brings experience not only as a BJJ professor but also as a police academy instructor, certified in both Gracie Survival Tactics and Police Jiu-Jitsu. His approach blends technical detail, practical self-defense, and a belief that Jiu-Jitsu offers lifelong benefits for anyone willing to put in the work. The adult program at Rampart Academy includes structured fundamentals in both gi and no-gi, advanced gi classes, and dedicated self-defense sessions. Students progress from basics to more complex techniques, with attention to positional control and submission skills. The academy welcomes drop-ins for most classes and emphasizes a high standard of rolling, mentorship, and accountability—values reinforced by the presence of experienced upper belts like Kevin, who played a key role in shaping the adult program. Youth classes form a central part of the academy, offering gi-based Jiu-Jitsu for kids and a focused competition class for young athletes. The coaching team includes specialists in wrestling and judo: Coach Erik Renninger, a USA Wrestling Certified Coach, and Judo instructor Larry, a second-degree black belt in Kodokan Judo, along with student instructor Carmine. Their expertise ensures that young students are introduced to grappling through safe, disciplined instruction that highlights both technical mastery and the importance of respect and mutual support.
